Super Eagles Qualify for World Cup Playoff Round after Draw with Cape Verde

A draw with Cape Verde sees Nigeria’s Super Eagles qualify for the playoff round of qualification for Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Nigeria win Group C by two points. Cape Verde finish second on 11 points, followed by Liberia in third and the Central African Republic last.

Nigeria needed just one point from the game and the Super Eagles started the match well as Victor Osimhen opened scoring after one minute.

The fast start continued as Cape Verde equalized five minutes later. Stopira held off Nigerian defenders as he fired the equalizer from a corner kick

Super Eagles had plenty of chances in the first half to reclaim their lead but Cape Verde, to their credit, stayed in the game right until the very end.

It wasn’t to be for Cape Verde, who finish second in Group C. Nigeria can now look forward to joining nine other teams in the playoffs next March for a place at Qatar 2022.
